The team behind Liminal Market
Our team has combined almost 50 years of experience in IT, banking and startups. But who are we?
Ingi the founder
Ingi Gauti Ragnarsson is the founder and CEO of Liminal Market. Ingi has been an entrepreneur since 2000, the former CTO of the largest e-commerce websites in Iceland.
In the year 2000 Ingi founded barnaland.is/bland.is that became one of the most visited websites in Iceland, providing online chat and password-protected websites for parents of newborns to share photos and other information with friends and family.
In 2009 Ingi co-founded Uppspretta, a P2P lending company in Iceland, but at that time the banking system in Iceland had not so much trust from the public.
Ingi was a solution architect at Móberg from 2012–2014. Móberg was running large e-commerce websites in Iceland such as heimkaup.is, bland.is and hopkaup.is and started netgiro.is, a lending platform, now owned by Kvika bank.
From 2014–2021 Ingi was CTO of heimkaup.is and hopkaup.is. Heimkaup.is is the largest e-commerce platform of Iceland with over 50k SKUs inventory. Ingi managed software design & development on purchase system, WMS, PIP, website, delivery system & scanners. All working together with 1-hour delivery & 99.95% inventory accuracy and keeping the website always fast. Hopkaup.is is the Groupon of Iceland, the largest offer website.
Arnar the co-founder
Arnar Arinbjarnarson is co-founder and COO of Liminal Market. Arnar was an Investment banker for 11 years and repeated entrepreneur for another 11 years.
In the year 2000 while still studying Mechanical- and industrial engineering in University of Iceland Arnar started working in Reykjavik Savings Bank along with school where Arnar was involved in risk management, trading, treasury and various IT projects.
In 2004 Arnar started to work at MP Investment Bank (now Kvika bank) in Reykjavik that had recently got a license as an investment Bank. The first project was to be responsible for forming risk management and treasury infrastructures in the bank. Forward contracts on securities soon became the largest business of the investment bank in terms of the size of the balance sheet so Arnar got Ingi Gauti to help build a robust risk management system for this business. In short, the system did a great job in the Iceland Banking Collapse in 2008.
In October 2008 the bank was granted a license as a commercial bank in Iceland. Arnar was one of the team members to connect the bank to all the infrastructure of the financial system of Iceland.
In 2012 Arnar founded Bókun, a travel tech infrastructure company for tours and activities, acquired by TripAdvisor in 2018.
In 2015 Arnar co-founded a central securities depository (CSD) in Iceland called Verðbréfamiðstöð Íslands.
Arnar has also co-founded a number of companies in various sectors such as health tech, media and fintech.
